I am working on the integration between optogenetics and synthetic biology to engineer microbial therapies. The purpose of my work is exploiting bacterial optogenetic systems to regulate the release of an anticancer toxin. The platform to test this bacterial therapeutic is a microfluidic gut-on-chip device which allows the co-culture of engineered bacteria with lines of colonic cancerous cells.
